The Best Family Photo Locations in Charlotte, NC
Choosing the right location for your family photos can feel like a big decision. There are so many beautiful parks, gardens, and outdoor spaces around Charlotte, but the prettiest location isn't always the best location for your family.
When I’m helping families plan their sessions, I think about more than just what looks beautiful in photos. I want to choose a place where everyone can feel comfortable, where kids have room to move, and where your family can actually enjoy being together.
Especially when you're photographing younger children, I’ve found that a location that feels simple and relaxed often creates much more natural photos than somewhere busy, overwhelming, or packed with things to look at.
As a Charlotte family photographer, these are some of my favorite locations for family photos around the Charlotte area.
Fisher Farm
Fisher Farm is one of my favorite options for families who want beautiful, natural photos without a complicated location.
There are open fields, trees, trails, and plenty of space for little ones to explore. Because there is room to move around, your session doesn't have to feel like everyone is standing in one spot taking photos. We can walk, play, run, snuggle, and let your kids be themselves.
Jetton Park
If you love the idea of having a little more variety in your family photos, Jetton Park is a beautiful option.
Located on Lake Norman, Jetton Park gives us a mix of greenery, trees, open spaces, and water. That means we can move around during your session and create a gallery that doesn't feel like every photo was taken in the exact same spot.
Downtown Kannapolis
Not every family wants their photos to look like they were taken in a traditional park, and that's where Downtown Kannapolis comes in.
Downtown Kannapolis has a little more personality, with different textures, architecture, and an urban feel mixed with outdoor spaces.
I love this option for families who want something a little different or who want their photos to feel connected to a place they enjoy spending time together.
It can also be a fun choice for older kids who might enjoy having a little more to interact with during the session.
Clarks Creek Nature Preserve
For families who love a more natural, outdoorsy feel, Clarks Creek Nature Preserve is another great option.
The wooded surroundings give your images a softer, more organic feel, and the trails give us opportunities to move throughout the session rather than staying in one location.
It can also be a great choice if your kids are happiest when they have somewhere to explore.
Davidson College & Downtown Davidson
Davidson is one of my favorite areas for families who want a classic, charming look without a traditional park setting.
The Davidson College campus and surrounding downtown area offer beautiful architecture, greenery, walkable streets, and plenty of variety within a relatively small area.
This is a great option for families who want their photos to have a little more personality while still feeling timeless. It can also work especially well for families with older children who are comfortable walking around and exploring throughout the session!
Your Home
This one has quickly become one of my favorite options.
Yes, your home can be an incredible location for family photos!
There is something so special about photographing your family in the place where your everyday life actually happens. Your kids are comfortable, you have access to all of their favorite little things, and there is no pressure to make everyone behave perfectly in an unfamiliar location.
This can be especially wonderful for families with younger children.
We can photograph everyone cuddled up together, playing in the backyard, reading a favorite book, playing with toys, baking, or simply doing the things that make your family your family.
If you're looking for something meaningful and personal, don't overlook your own backyard or living room!
So, Which Location Is Right for Your Family?
There isn't one location that is the "best" for every family.
When choosing a location, I always encourage you to think about your family first.
Have younger kids who need room to run? A spacious location like Fisher Farm or Jetton Park may be a great fit.
Want something more personal? Your own home might be exactly what you're looking for.
Love nature? Clarks Creek Nature Preserve could be the perfect setting.
Want something with a little more personality? Downtown Kannapolis or Davidson may be a better fit.
And if you're not sure, that's completely okay! One of my favorite parts of planning a family session is helping you find a location that actually makes sense for your family.
The Best Family Photos Don't Happen in the "Perfect" Location
At the end of the day, your family photos aren't really about the location.
They're about the way your little one reaches for your hand. The way your kids laugh when you chase them. The way everyone squeezes together for a hug. The tiny moments you don't realize you'll want to remember years from now.
That's why I don't believe your family needs to show up to a photoshoot and immediately stand perfectly still and smile at the camera.
I want your session to feel relaxed, playful, and true to your family!
Sometimes that means running through a field. Sometimes it means walking around Davidson. And sometimes it means staying home in the backyard.
The best location is the one where your family can be yourselves.
